Let’s make our democracy work for the many and not just the few. The Pluribus Project ─ a special initiative with the Aspen Institute ─ is changing the way political campaigns are run and won, so our elected officials work on behalf of broad public interests instead of moneyed interests or angry extremists. Our project is led by a dynamic team of social entrepreneurs with extensive experience at the intersection of politics, media, and technology who came together to address what we see as the defining challenge of our time. Through a rigorous process with leading campaign experts, we have [...]

John Pudner, executive director of Take Back Our Republic, a conservative group, said although Republican frontrunner Donald J. Trump has come closest to addressing campaign finance reform, even the business tycoon has never gone beyond mentioning it as a problem. "I don’t think Trump has ever proposed a solution,” Pudner said. The entire article can be found here.

Sunday Breitbart ran a post by Take Back Our Republic Executive Director John Pudner at the top of their front page. The piece was also sent out by Google in their Daily Report on campaign finance reform. Breitbart, ranked as the 8th most popular political website by eBiz, balanced supportive and critical posts, as well as a balanced news story, regarding whether conservatives should participate in the Democracy Spring march from Philadelphia to Washington to call attention to campaign finance issues such as special interests giving millions in undisclosed political contributions to get billions back in tax dollars that swell the deficit. At Harvard: Pudner Cites HSUS as Example of Why Conservatives Should Join Fight on Big Money Politics

With the Final Four this weekend, we kept the college spirit with TBOR Executive Director John Pudner joining Board Member Dr. Richard Painter at Painter's alma mater Harvard for comments on campaign finance reform. While Laura MacLeery of the Brennan Center and Max Stahl of Democracy Matters made the progressive case regarding big money from industry and private prisons affecting policy and implementation of regulations, we appreciate having the opportunity to point out to Harvard Law students the reasons conservatives should also be concerned about big money dominating policy. While the video from the event is limited, you can see part of Dr. Painter [...]

But John Pudner, a former Republican political consultant who now heads a nonprofit group focused on money’s role in politics, Take Back Our Republic, said he’s seen some encouraging comments from Republican candidates and lawmakers, and he thinks some are considering laying out a platform. “Campaign finance and money in politics has become such a hot issue that everyone is realizing that if one side is talking about it and the other isn’t, that’s going to hurt the side that isn’t,” he said. Pudner said he thinks there’s room for compromise proposals. For instance, Republicans might oppose public financing but support [...]

Auburn, AL – Wednesday’s announcement of distinguished Advisory Board Members from throughout the United States comes the day after a visit from Country Rocker Donica Knight, whose song Love Ain’t A Prize was the No. 1 iTunes new country release late in 2015. We appreciate Donica already spreading the word about www.takeback.org as she has a few more followers than us (140,000 YouTube views the first three days she released her first song is a little hard for us to top). Beth Coulson will chair the National Board of Advisors for Take Back Our Republic, an independent nonpartisan group that [...]

Auburn, AL – Beth Coulson has accepted a position on the National Board of Advisors for Take Back Our Republic, an independent nonpartisan group that is focusing on conservative solutions to problems with the campaign finance system. “I welcome the opportunity to give more people a voice in the political process,” Coulson said. “I look forward to helping improve our campaign finance system.” Coulson is a former member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the north suburban Chicago 17th District from 1997 to 2011. Coulson won election in the Chicago area despite running as a Republican, with President Obama [...]

Thousands Comment on Breitbart Op-Ed Giving Background on Take Back

Breitbart's excellent piece on the "Democracy Spring" effort to call attention to money in politics included a well-written summary of the founding and mission of Take Back Our Republic, as well as another paragraph on one of our Board Members, Richard Painter. While I realize there is some sensitivity about protests because of the ones centered around political events in recent weeks, the author did a nice job of laying out the case that this is not the case in the Democracy Spring effort. Rather it is an attempt to call attention to the price we all pay for a [...]

“What makes this broken process so troubling is that in 2013 alone, the U.S. government spent roughly $460 billion on federal contracts with $177 billion going to just 25 companies. And all of those taxpayer dollars were handed out to contractors who have the ability to quietly funnel money to politicians and political parties without having to tell a soul about their contributions.” Take Back ED John Pudner was recently quoted in The Salem News article.
