Last week I had the opportunity to head home to Huntsville, where I had the pleasure of meeting with the Farmers Federations of Madison and Limestone Counties in Alabama. I was thrilled to meet and speak with Jimmy Parnell (right in photo), the President of ALFA and the State Farmers Federation, as well as Rex Vaughn (left in photo), the President of the Madison County Farmers Federation. Mr. Vaughn invited me to this meeting quite a few weeks ago, and I will admit, I was quite nervous, especially since it was my first time addressing a large group of individuals [...]

The Overlooked Importance of Campaign Finance Reform The following was written by guest blogger, Alexis Esneault, a former Campus Coordinator and member of Alumni For Liberty. She is spending the summer as a Development Associate at Take Back Our Republic before starting law school at Cumberland School of Law in the Fall. Most of the time when people think of campaign finance reform, they think of liberals, but I maintain that conservatives should find this issue to be equally important. And out of all political identities, it is those of us who identify as libertarian who should find this issue [...]

TheWeekly Standard, on most everyone_s list of top 10 conservative sites, lauded the idea of tax credits for small political contributions as _revolutionary._ That news came as we had more than a half dozen meetings the past three days in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin _ including two places I would never have visited before taking this position. NON-PARTISAN OUTREACH As a 501c3,www.takeback.orgis a non-partisan group that seeks to share educational materials on issues like the tax credit. No state has been more partisan than Wisconsin in recent elections, so we were happy when Camille Solberg (far left in photo) of [...]

A revolutionary campaign finance idea The Weekly StandardBy Jay Cost Writing recently in the Daily Beast, John Pudner of Take Back Our Republic, a conservative reform group, offered an interesting proposal for improving our campaign finance system. He suggested that each political donor receive a tax credit worth up to $200: If our ultimate goal is to restore citizens_ faith in their government, shouldn_t we also do what we can to make it easier for those same citizens to give a small contribution to the candidates of their choice? Citizens who write the small checks tend also to start talking [...]

The Weekly Standard on Take Back Our Republic

So, What About Money in Politics? The Weekly StandardBY JAY COST "Other than the Center for Competitive Politics, helmed by former Federal Election Commission chairman Bradley Smith, and Take Back Our Republic, a new organization founded by those who helped Dave Brat take down Eric Cantor last year, one is hardpressed to think of conservative entities promoting a vision of good government. Conservatives have spent enormous intellectual capital on issues like education, health care, and taxes_but what about corruption? When Democratic pols rail against Citizens United, what reforms can Republicans counter with?" Read the full article here.
