AUBURN, AL- Campaign finance issues are an international problem.

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been arrested over allegations that he took £42million in illegal campaign contributions from deceased Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Elected to a single 5-year term in 2007, Sarkozy is alleged to have been in negotiations with the dictator since 2005. The massive sum is disturbing because it came from a foreign government, was directed by an evil tyrant, came through an elaborate scheme including multiple banks and arms dealers, and grossly exceeded the maximum contribution allowed in the country.

While there is some solace in knowing that this is not a distinctly American problem, this latest episode comes at a time when Russian interference in our electoral process is a leading national news story. Moreover, we at Take Back Our Republic have been sounding the alarm regarding likely illegal foreign contributions through unverified credit cards.

Here’s the reality: it’s possible that similar sums from similarly evil madmen are flooding into our elections!

What do you think? Should Americans wake up to the problem? Do you agree that we could have similar issues here yet not be aware? Or, do you believe that foreign governments, companies, and individuals are not trying to influence the outcomes of our elections? Join the conversation at:
