Payments Stopped for Phony Committee Chairs

AUBURN, AL- Like other states, New York compensates its legislative committee chairs more than other members. That’s fine… provided those receiving the additional compensation actually are committee chairmen.

One would think that such a clear distinction would lead allow for little obfuscation, but 5 New York senators attempted to leverage their unpaid position as vice chairs to chairman level compensation.

Until the comptroller, Thomas P. DiNapoli, stepped in to put a stop to the claim.

Despite the fact that the phony chairmanships are demonstrably false, Senate attorneys fought the efforts of the comptroller to deny the payments. The absurdity of their argument that, essentially, the Senate should be able to determine payments of tax payer dollars to legislators as they see fit, goes without saying.

Despite being a left-leaning state, New York’s State Senate is under GOP control with the help of some independent democrats. All 5 of the senators involved are part of this coalition which could hurt Republican chances in the state moving forward.
