Very few Americans wanted to see the “status quo” continue on Facebook after the 2016 election cycle, one that saw the social media platform infiltrated and weaponized by opponents to our democracy.
As Facebook makes changes, however, it continues to face backlash as those it removes for being “fake news” or “ad farms” cry foul and allege censorship.
In a study conducted by The Western Journal, a conservative media outlet, the overwhelming majority of the pages shut down were right-leaning. To read what they wrote as well as their concerns about the misdirection from Facebook, see: https://www.westernjournal.com/facebook-silences-political-speech/.
There is still plenty of fallout from the midterms, and the need for continued improvement remains. However, it’s important to be vigilant on both fronts- preventing the platform from being used by foreign adversaries and protecting the free speech rights of all Americans.
