State Date Victory
Grassroots Campaign South Carolina 2019 A pivotal primary state for any presidential candidate, South Carolina is central to the fight for campaign finance integrity. TBOR promoted an "Ask the Question" campaign for citizens to ask candidates how they would respond to campaign finance reforms. TBOR representatives attended more than 50 meetings throughout the state, was featured in local media, and signed up more than 1,000 new members.
Credit Card Loopholes New Mexico 2019 SB 50, sponsored by Sen. Cisco McSorley, D-Albuquerque, and Albuquerque Republican Reps. Jim Dine and Bill Rehm, closes what campaign finance reform advocates call a “credit card loophole.” The loophole allows donors to make unverifiable, fraudulent contributions to politicians. The bill would require that donors type in a three-digit security code on the back of their credit or debit card when making a political contribution online. The legislation, based on a Take Back educational paper, was signed into law by Gov. Susana Martinez.
Election Integrity Texas 2019 Texas Bill SB9 increases criminal offenses and penalties on those who would commit fraud in the name of election voting. It also seeks to create a paper trail of votes cast.
LLC Loophole New York 2019 Since its inception, Take Back Our Republic identified New York’s LLC Loophole as one of the most egregious and non-sensical in campaign finance. This fix prohibits wealthy individuals from having outsized influence on elections by preventing them from making massive, repeated contributions through their LLCs. Previously, the loophole treated LLCs as individuals, allowing LLC owners to exceed aggregate limits imposed on individual donors.
Ethics North Dakota 2018 North Dakota voters approved anti-corruption legislation that created an ethics commission to enforce six common-sense accountability reforms, including greater transparency, preventing personal use of campaign money banning foreign money and lobbying gifts, among others.
Gerrymandering Michigan 2018 TBOR helped deliver a gerrymandering reform win in Michigan. The new law required a ruling at the state Supreme Court.
Ethics Michigan 2018 Michigan created an ethics commission to be appointed by the state Senate majority and minority leaders as well as the governor. Michigan was one of seven states without an ethics commission before the law was changed..
Constitutional Amendment New Hampshire 2018 On a 14-10 vote, the New Hampshire General Court became the 20th state legislature to call on Congress for a constitutional amendment limiting political spending. The New Hampshire House passed the same measure in a bipartisan vote. To date, more than 80 Granite State municipalities have passed similar resolutions. The resolution was supported by TBOR.
Gerrymandering Ohio 2018 TBOR confronted Ohio's long-standing issue of gerrymandering. In passing the amendment, Ohio has secured the end to the partisan process from drawing congressional districts as new congressional districts now require a bipartisan vote and significant bipartisan support for the congressional map to be effective for its entire 10-year duration.
FEC Ruling National 2017 The FEC ruling that TBOR supported and our sister organization won has forced Facebook to disclose all sponsors of political ads in the aftermath of meddling from Russia and past efforts from China and elsewhere. This ruling came after seven years of FEC deadlock, which made it all the more surprising that a unanimous vote in favor of disclosure was achieved.

TBOR is fixing this problem, but we need your help on the ground. Make an impact near you!
