Republican Party to Build ActBlue Rival
Perhaps no tool has revolutionized fundraising like ActBlue, the online donation portal that has fueled liberal dominance in the arena. Now, the Grand Ole Party hopes to replicate its success.
In the 2018 midterm elections, ActBlue raised $1.66 billion from nearly 5 million unique donors over 42 million contributions. A tool exclusively for the Left, there are now 15,000 groups using the system to raise funds.
Because of this unprecedented success, the Right has been searching for a way to compete, and now the Republican Party has a deal in place to create its own system. The new, unified system will be called Patriot Pass and stems from conversations between some of the foremost power players both within the party and the Trump orbit.
Expected to debut in February 2019, Patriot Pass is expected to have many of the same features as ActBlue and be just as user-friendly. What is unclear, however, is whether Patriot Pass will require a credit card verification or if it will have the same foreign donation loophole as its liberal counterpart.
At Take Back Our Republic, we have been a frequent critic of ActBlue, which has left our system vulnerable to incredible foreign participation. By not requiring verified credit cards, foreign governments and individuals can use the platform to contribute to our elections.
Will Patriot Pass be the same? For more information, see: https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/21/republican-fundraising-patriot-pass-1116642.
