Take Back Featured in North Dakota Politico Story

October 15, 2018

President Donald Trump promised to “drain the swamp” by cracking down on Washington lobbying. This year, a group calling itself the Badass Grannies is trying to convince North Dakota voters to take matters into their own hands. Behind the efforts are national progressive groups, including the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center, and conservatives, such as Take Back Our Republic’s John Pudner. RepresentUs advisers include Harvard professor Lawrence Lessig and the tea party’s Catherine Baer, and its model anti-corruption language was drafted […]

North Dakota Coordinator Lays Out Need For Reform

August 14, 2018

Imagine one of our legislators telling a lobbyist that they aren’t interested in lunch, but I will accept that bribe instead of lunch with you? Our state like Arizona, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho and New Mexico have no ethics commission for watchdog oversight on bribery with penalty, violation of disclosures, false statements, foreign donors, misuse of confidential information and a litany of other felonies and misdemeanors against we the people. Money and politics is nothing new, however, when monitored […]

Alaskans Made Government Accountable To The People

July 25, 2018

Alaskans set out to make their government more accountable to the people—and it just worked. The Alaska Legislature raised the bar for ethics and integrity in government by passing HB 44. The bill passed the Senate 13-6 and the House 39-1 with support from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, and Governor Bill Walker just signed it into law. This only happened because more than 45,000 Alaskans signed petitions to put a similar proposal, the Alaska Government Accountability Act, on the ballot. […]

Mick Mulvaney’s Stunning Admission and the Dark Money Now Targeting Him

May 4, 2018

AUBURN, AL- It was weird hearing someone say it out loud. OMB Director and Acting Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Mick Mulvaney gave voice to the open secret in Washington that “pay to play” is a real thing with a recent stunning admission: “If you were a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you were a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you. If you came from back home and […]

Special Interests Went Down to Georgia; They Were Looking for a Relative to Hire

April 23, 2018

AUBURN, AL- At Take Back Our Republic, we have written that Washington, DC is the largest- but certainly not the only- swamp around the nation. Atlanta, not far from our Auburn headquarters, showcased its swampiness as its session wound down in late March. The issue, installing traffic cameras in school zones, has some merit- although the logistics drew some concern. Nevertheless, HOW the legislation passed has certainly raised eyebrows. As with any issue where government spends money, someone was […]

September 12, 2017

Weekly Standard senior writer Tony Mecia summarized key aspects of the www.takeback.org agenda in the Washington Examiner, a top news source for Capitol Hill: John Pudner, executive director of Take Back Our Republic, a conservative group advocating for campaign finance reform, says lobbying combined with campaign cash creates a system that hurts taxpayers. “Stopping the revolving door is important, but also realizing that somebody is trading millions in lobbying and campaign contributions for billions in taxpayer money — that’s a big […]

What Can a Republican and a Democrat in Congress Agree on? A Need for Reform

September 6, 2017

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI 8th District) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA 17th District) are clear about one thing: they don’t agree on much. Aside from being first term congressmen and among the youngest members of the body (Gallagher is 33 and Khanna is 40), there are few similarities. Beyond party, Gallagher is a former Marine from dairy-country. Khanna taught economics in the Silicon Valley. Yet, they both are coming together to promote systematic reform. The two recently elected leaders wrote […]

The Battle Continues in Missouri: Part 2

June 1, 2017

One of the key players we have been following in the Missouri battle over reform issues is Sen. Rob Schaaf (R- St. Joseph). This week, Schaaf released an op-ed attacking the failed bill that supposedly banned lobbyist gifts. The entire article can be read HERE. In short, Schaaf points out that the supposed “ban” would still allow for unlimited gifts so long as all members of a given chamber were invited to an event that the lobbyists were present. Moreover, […]
