TBOR’s Ashley Sellers Pens Guest Column in Guntersville Advertiser

Ashley Sellers

On Tuesday, Guntersville officials hoped residents would approve a proposed tax for school construction and other items on the ballot. Unlike the passage of a similar measure in Montgomery last November, Guntersville voters did the right thing. They defeated the tax hike with an impressive 58 percent to 42 percent margin on Tuesday. Others close to the referendum speculated that the proposed tax increase would pass with something close to a 75 percent margin. Thanks to the residents of Guntersville taking the time to get out and vote, this prediction was not even close.
