Unverified ActBlue Tops $1 Billion for 2018 Cycle
AUBURN, AL- No organization does more to open the doors for foreign financial influence than liberal donation portal ActBlue. Recently, the group announced that it had collected more than $1 billion in online donations this election cycle.
While we acknowledge the legality of their actions (a gaping loophole we are working to fix), the ongoing problem nonetheless puts our democratic process in jeopardy. Because ActBlue does not require credit cards to be verified, any contribution runs the risk of coming from a foreign individual, government, or organization.
And, what is that money funding?
Well, ActBlue Executive Director Erin Hill is very clear: the money it collects is “funding the resistance.” While we will not get into which policies, politicians, or party foreign threats prefer, we can say with certainty that they are interested in funding chaos and disunity across the United States. Such a wide avenue for influence is, without doubt, enticing for those who seek to do our nation harm.
The anticipation is that ActBlue, which is receiving an average unverified donation of $34, will collect at least another $500 million prior to the November election. Without closing the loophole that allows for unverified credit cards, every donation has the potential to be a threat to our democratic system.
What do you think? Do you agree that this is a problem? What is preventing ActBlue from being a responsible actor in our democracy? How can we encourage politicians to support H.R. 1341 which would solve this issue? Join the conversation at: https://www.facebook.com/takebackorg/.
