VP Debate proves need for H.R. 4177

In the Vice Presidential debate, both candidates accused the other campaign of being susceptible to foreign influences. Regardless of the validity of the claims raised by either side, these accusations illustrate the importance of the work Take Back Our Republic is pursuing to pass HR 4177. This legislation amends the Federal Election Campaign Act to prevent campaigns, political committees, and most importantly, elected officials from accepting credit card contributions unless the source can be as identified as coming from a United States citizen.

Regardless if the issues raised in the Vice President debate are true – the possibility of foreign influence in our elections are troubling.

History shows that there are indeed foreign operatives seeking to influence the American political process. Yes it is illegal – and yes, it happens.

The allegations of foreign debt and/or international investors in Trump’s company or the pay to play accusations with the Clinton Foundation raised bring this issue to an increased level of importance. Both sides have ample reason to bring up the potential of foreign influence over the others administration. This is a problem especially considering the concerns are valid. It is no secret that money influences the decisions candidates and officials make – and they must all work to avoid even the appearance of corruption.

HR 4177 is gaining support from those in Congress who actually believe in preventing the selling out of our Democracy to foreign interests. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue, it is an American one – something we can all support.

We appreciate your support of Take Back our Republic so that we may continue to advocate for conservative solutions for campaign finance reform, including HR 4177.
